At the global level, there is a continuous increase in the production and consumption of plastic materials as a result of the increase in the volumes of manufactured products and their assortment. As a result, the problem of plastic waste has become a pressing global issue that has a strong negative impact on the environment. In this context, the only intelligent and rational solution is the implementation of circular supply models in the field of plastic production that will allow the recycling of plastic waste, thus ensuring a sustainable economic development. The purpose of this article is to address the theoretical aspects regarding the role of the circular economy in the human social and economic system with an emphasis on the circular supply model in the field of plastic materials production. In order to argue the importance of the researched problem and the current trends in this field, this article analyzes the statistical data on the annual volume of plastic produced globally, the distribution of global plastic waste according to their destination and the distribution of the weight of non-recyclable plastic waste in a territorial profile globally.en_US
