Pinot Noir is a red wine variety that originated in the Burgundy region, France, but is grown in many other wine regions around the world, including California, Oregon, Australia, New Zealand, and more. Pinot Noir wines are known for their subtle and elegant taste, with aromas of red fruits such as strawberries, cherries and raspberries, as well as hints of spice and wood. Pinot Noir wines typically havemoderate acidity and fine tannins, making them suitable for aging. Because of its delicate nature and sensitive to the climate and soil where it is grown, the production of Pinot Noir grapes and wine is often expensive and of high quality. Pinot Noir grapes are often used to produce dry red wines, but can also be used to produce sweet or sparkling wines. Pinot Noir is often blended with other grape varieties such as Chardonnay or Pinot Meunier to produce sparkling wines such as Champagne. Pinot Noir wines are usually paired with light and delicate dishes such as salmon or chicken, but they also pair well with soft, white-rind cheeses such as Brie or Camembert. Pinot Noir wines are also ideal to be enjoyed as an aperitif or with a light and pleasant meal.
