Abstract: 
The article supports the idea of the central role of ethics as a science of morality and behavior in the formation of human beings and social unity, of a harmonious society without conflicts among its members. The moral codes of the European, Chinese, Hindu
civilization are analyzed to clarify the demands of society towards its members and the influence of these demands on the spiritual culture of the peoples specified. The authority that sanctions and requires the individual to receive and fulfill moral norms is highlighted in moral codes. It also analyzes moral virtues and their role in the rise of human personality. The author points out that the golden rule of morals is studied by many authors, but it is dressed in different forms. The following moral values are analyzed: good, happiness, freedom and duty.
