Abstract: 
Science can be seen as a process of obtaining new information. This process has a consecutive and collective character: any scientific work is based on a number of previously published ideas. In other words, new scientific papers appear as a result of the development or awareness of previous works. In case of the absence of barriers, the speed of growth in the number of scientific publications determines the level of science development and can be used also for prognosis of science and society development. Based on the analysis of the number of scientific papers published over the past 30 years, the author concludes that science and society are on the verge of unprecedented changes.
